The data obtained by the Agricultural Meteorological Observatory can be used to identify quantitative relationships between agricultural production objects and processes and meteorological conditions, to conduct agrometeorological information, forecasting services, and to analyze and zoning, as well as to provide basic information for the use, regulation and adaptation of agricultural microclimate conditions.
Agricultural meteorological observations follow the principle of parallel observations and are carried out on agrometeorological observation sites near agricultural meteorological stations. In order to make the observation data representative and comparable, the factors such as topography, groundwater level and farming techniques should be considered in the middle of the year when selecting the observation area. Observed agricultural objects should choose the most representative species in the area. The time interval of phenology observation is based on the principle of non-missing and not delaying. The observation of agrometeorological elements should reflect its changing status and extreme value. The observation time can be determined according to the characteristics of agro-meteorological elements and agricultural production objects; at the same time, it should be considered in conjunction with meteorological observation time of meteorological stations, usually with regular observations or irregular observations.

The agrometeorological observation methods are divided into visual inspection, conventional instrument observation and precision instrument observation according to the required accuracy. Since the 1970s, observation instruments have been improved, and telemetry and integrated agrometeorological observation instruments have appeared, which can automatically print and record data of various agro-meteorological elements. Remote sensing technology provides a wide range of rainfall and information, as well as natural vegetation and livestock status. These have shown good prospects for the automation, telemetry and integration of agricultural meteorological observations and finally achieving objectivity.
